gesture

14"x11" oil

Did this one second. Totally out of my head. Thinking only of seated woman. Paint one. The one below I spent entirely too much time observing, trying to replicate real conditions. I suppose figure is a bit different than landscape but not much. The difference is you can play with a landscape and make it work many ways. The figure..............not so much.

36" x24"

Nathan Oliveira was a big influence when I approach figure. In searching for a clip I discovered he just passed away. This is a brief clip that shows little work. For anyone who likes stripped to the core figure work check him out.

In your 2nd painting, the figure sat down. Think of a seated woman, and she sits down. Dream it real.

Thanks for the Oliviera video. Jala and I love him. Sorry to hear he's gone.

The top one will be sitting tomorrow. Even if I have to chop her legs off.............artistically speaking of course.

Brian, I love love love love what you are doing! Love the abstracted figures, the minimalist landscapes. Awesome. When I first saw them, they reminded me of both Oliveira and our own blogger Sheila Vaughan. Your new figures make me want to try it too.

Thanks Jala. Good to see you back in the states. Sounds like the trip was painful. I'd love to see dig into some figure again. Go for it!
