 40"x 30" oil

40"x30" oil

So pretty much I paint on Christmas eve. No kids and the family has moved to the other side. These latest pieces were just completed. I did them from my imagination over old work of mine. I had an epiphany tonight that made me think these imagination pieces are more about "self" than any observation work could be. I use to think the only honest work was done from observation but am questioning my own theory. On top of that is picking pieces to paint over. Plein air work is intense and rewarding but is from observation after all. So my question is what do you all feel is most important in your artistic endeavors ? And keep in mind memory painting is still based on observation.

36"x 36" oil
with 10"x 8" study

Here is an example of my old idea of art "the small one" and my current direction. The old one might as well be illustration.

new figurative work

 10"x 8" oil

 14"x 11" oil

14"x 11" oil

Three new imagination pieces that I am oddly enough pleased with. The bottom one has the frame included to show the color of all my frames now. I've gone to one color to keep a uniform look in my booth and can easily make repairs. The jury results are starting to roll in for next year so keep an eye on my show schedule.

Yes I have been painting. No I have not been posting. It seems the blog world is disappearing. It's a pain updating my website since I have to enter the code for the you tube links and stat counter.. Anyhow 2 of the new figurative pieces will be at the Art Association of Harrisburg;s figurative show in January and the 11x 14s are from my latest trip to Annapolis. The 30x 40 is from upstate new york. I will be going on a painting trip in March to southern Virginia with my friend David Oleski filming the outing so come spring I will have some exciting video to share.

Upstate New York winter paintings

 30"x 40" oil/linen

30"x 40" oil/linen

2 new pieces done from images captured during the New York state trip. The sun only showed itself a few times so I wanted to do some larger bright pieces back in studio. This is the winter that won't quit in the northeast USA. These paintings will be refreshing during the summer shows when the temps approach 100 F!
