This little statue kicked my butt to force a wipe down the first attempt but I'm happy with the second day result!

I just returned from a week of painting in Deltaville, Va. I completed ten paintings and David Oleski shot video of my work for 2 days so there will be documentation of the trip. I'll post the others from the trip as well as my weekly figure study work next. Cheers......
So I joined a figure study group that meets once a week so I can see where I'm at with observation figure work. The bottom one is a new imagination piece the other two are from life with a studio landscape thrown in
Here are some new pieces. Just found out I can no longer use my web host for updating my website so I will have to post everything here on my blog until I get a new web host and create a new site. Bummer but I'm working on it.
So pretty much I paint on Christmas eve. No kids and the family has moved to the other side. These latest pieces were just completed. I did them from my imagination over old work of mine. I had an epiphany tonight that made me think these imagination pieces are more about "self" than any observation work could be. I use to think the only honest work was done from observation but am questioning my own theory. On top of that is picking pieces to paint over. Plein air work is intense and rewarding but is from observation after all. So my question is what do you all feel is most important in your artistic endeavors ? And keep in mind memory painting is still based on observation.
Three new imagination pieces that I am oddly enough pleased with. The bottom one has the frame included to show the color of all my frames now. I've gone to one color to keep a uniform look in my booth and can easily make repairs. The jury results are starting to roll in for next year so keep an eye on my show schedule.
Yes I have been painting. No I have not been posting. It seems the blog world is disappearing. It's a pain updating my website since I have to enter the code for the you tube links and stat counter.. Anyhow 2 of the new figurative pieces will be at the Art Association of Harrisburg;s figurative show in January and the 11x 14s are from my latest trip to Annapolis. The 30x 40 is from upstate new york. I will be going on a painting trip in March to southern Virginia with my friend David Oleski filming the outing so come spring I will have some exciting video to share.
Alright! The book is now available and I'm proud to say that I am one of the 100!. Gary Pendelton put together this wonderful documentary of plein air painting in fine fashion. There is going to be a book signing at Mcbride gallery in Annapolis MD on Nov. 15. I will be there as well as many others doing a paint out and signing books which are available there as well as on Amazon. Speaking of plein air the 2 below are new from a friends farm close by.
Here are 6 new 6"x 6"s that will be at Isadore gallery in Lancaster PA. for the holiday show in December. I have a few other new ones to post shortly. These are all scenes from our cabin in upstate New York.
I am an oil painter. I paint mostly from direct observation both indoors and out. I studied at the Art Students League Manhattan under Daniel Dickerson. In my work I strive to maintain a balance between abstraction and representation all the while keeping atmosphere most important. View my show schedule to see where I'll be exhibiting.
