upstate new york

11"x14"
So while doing this one I went through what alot of artists go through. I contemplated changing my whole direction. I really only wanted to show a certain key of light. Particularly with this scene. I probably could have done 3 colors and felt more satisfied. I feel ok with the piece in the mirror and perhaps will figure out my latest feelings towards painting. I've been doing this long enough to never trust my mind. I'll just paint on..............

Mirror views always help, but take a look at the painting in a thumbnail. Small eliminates details. Mostly, don't think too hard.

Thanks Laura!

Hey Sam. I do tend to beat myself up when considering my own work. One of the aspects of my paintings is the looseness usually reads well when viewed small as you say.Well, not exactly what you said. I frequently get people in my booth at shows that walk right up to a piece and have no clue what they are looking at (they usually haven't a clue)so I suggest they get way back and look. Then I wave goodbye...I get your point. For some reason I didn't capture something with this one that I wanted to capture. In fact, I'm looking at it now and will tweak a bit and start a new version. Damn this obsession!

Hi Brian! Obsessions are good. They make us try harder and harder. This painting has a peaceful feeling and I was drawn to it right away.
