David Oleski Coffee Cup

8"x10" oil
This little mug is proving to be quite difficult. There are so many reflections and I always try to reduce to a minimum. I struggle with handles and this is true again.I continue with the squint more theory and the handle almost dissappears a little below middle. It's not easy making a coffee cup a piece of art but I will keep trying. The cup itself however is a piece of art thanks to david's artwork on it. This was painted under artificial light.

Beautiful use of paint Brian! I was looking through your collection of recent paintings and you seem to be very connected to the cylinder. Is that a theme of yours? Or am I reading into things?

Thanks Loriann! Just want to say I really enjoy your latest work. Wish I could make the opening today but this head cold is still keeping me in the house. As far as the cylinder as a theme.I hadn't thought about it but it appears you are correct. One of my goals in painting is to break the subject down to its bare essentials and yet still be recognizable. The cylinder lends itself well. That being said I don't consciously pick cylinders. I am a prisoner of my eye. I go where it takes me. One of my biggest influences in the early formative years was artist Nicholas de Stael. As the river is in your head some of his still life paintings are in mine! For some reason that doesn't always apply out of doors. I pay more attention to form indoors and light outdoors consciously. Thanks for making me think and have a good show!
