8"x8" oil/ panel
I've finished the third iris for my mom. They will make a nice display hung together. I've used an inferior camera for the photo of this one. Liz has the good camera this weekend.

This one is the best of all. I think it is a combination of stroke and the fact that the strokes are sometimes unmixed fully so you reinforce the color harmony through the streaks. A gem.
Thanks Loriann. You have a very good eye. Meaning, that indeed I concentrated on looser mixing before adding stand oil. Once I start mixing in the medium I get too much color similarity and the planes become one color. The thing I like most with knife work is the ability to have so much clean color variety within a swipe of the blade. I think I'm getting much closer to the result with brushes. These small pieces make it easier but again my goal is large scale. I might have to take a loan out over winter to buy huge volumes of paint! It's funny, when I taught a knife class the students thought they were using way too much paint. I find it requires more paint to do it with brushes. Lest I forget your beloved medium. Pastels. A wonderful combination of both worlds.
