Intuition

5"x7" oil

Haven't painted in awhile for a multitude of reasons. Was finally able to empty my head and get into studio. I say empty my head because for me painting depends a lot on intuition. I had many flashes while doing this small piece. I'd like to say I'll remember them but I won't. The key will be to allow flashes in the next piece. "Minds are like parachutes, they only work when they are open".

out to pasture

6"x6" oil
So I revisited the cows in snow piece from a week or two ago. Wanted to strip it down. With what I've been learning with application lately I knew I could keep it loose. What I learned immediately was that the cows had to go. Out of the painting I mean. I fell into the trap of subject over composition. The Jungian snow cows worked from last year because of the motion dynamic. These cows were just piggin' out. Not very dynamic. So boom, they're out to pasture. I would like to have spent more than the 20 minutes I had on this but a painting friend is coming over that I haven't seen since the shows. We shall enjoy dinner and conversation. I suspect I'll revisit this piece soon.

new work

16"x20" oil amazing, the difference from looking toward the sun and away.

The summer show season has come and gone. The van is empty and ready for some "plein van" work. Looking forward to getting back to some plein air work and cleaning up the studio. Here are some new pieces.

winter farm 2

6"x6" oil
Little more dynamic with this one. I've let the paint do the describing. I want to do the same with the larger ones but as you can tell there is still work to do. Will do 2 more this size than a 16x20 with more energy.
Off to the Armonk outdoor art show. Last one of the season for me. Will finally be able to get back outside and paint as well as intense studio work.
