Upstate New York winter paintings
30"x 40" oil/linen
30"x 40" oil/linen
2 new pieces done from images captured during the New York state trip. The sun only showed itself a few times so I wanted to do some larger bright pieces back in studio. This is the winter that won't quit in the northeast USA. These paintings will be refreshing during the summer shows when the temps approach 100 F!

14"x11" oil/linen birch panel
Here are 3 pieces of the thirteen I completed 2 weeks ago on my plein air excursion to upstate New York. The goal is to paint sections of the Susquehanna watershed from the headwaters to the Chesapeake Bay. These paintings were all done in Otsego county New York. The lake is Otsego Lake. THE starting point of the Susquehanne River's main branch. Round one complete!
I will have 12 of the new pieces along with 2 30"x40"s in a show at Isadore gallery in Lancaster PA. January through February

30"x40" oil/linen
I've been lacking in posting new work so here is a batch of new stuff. I bought a high def sports camcorder and am learning the ins and outs of editing. It is rather time consuming but I have made progress. I'm going to upstate New York next week to do some extreme plein air painting in the winter wonderland and will get some good video I suspect. I want it to snow!

36"x48" oil/linen
Fresh off the easel, this is a scene in the Eastport area of Annapolis, MD. Looking toward spa creek from 2nd in Eastport. I always paint here when in Annapolis. This size is a studio piece. It's been a busy summer doing the shows but took advantage of 2 weeks off. Next week gets busy again at the Alexandria festival of the arts on King street in Virginia. The show schedule is updated through the fall. Back to work, It is Labor Day after all!

New cityscape
30"x40" oil/linen
This is my latest piece. Too wet to show this weekend at the uptown art fair in Minneapolis but that is where I'm off to. The latest pieces are getting cohesive and my approach to work is coming to fruition. Painting continues to shape my direction.

New Cityscapes
30"x40" oil/linen
30"x40" oil/linen
30"x40" oil/linen
Fortunately I cut my show schedule back a bit. I've been home 2 weeks in a row! So I'm back into the rainy cityscapes that I love. Studio time feels good and I'm gearing up for another extended show trip. I'm off to the Hamptons over the 4th of July weekend then Madison Wisconsin finishing in Ann Arbor. I'll have another week off then it all starts over again! It is a crazy lifestyle but a very enjoyable one indeed.

24"x48" (@design domain gallery)
30"x40" oil/linen (@ modern history collection)
30"x40" oil/linen (@ my truck :))
I've been a tad bit busy prepping for my show season which kicked off in Richmond VA. last week. I still am fascinated with this subject matter and where it takes me. I notice that I seem to be doing more layering and allowing very raw strokes to remain untouched. Even the drip marks are interesting to me.

figure painting
36"x36" oil
I thought it would be good to show a piece I did way back when in art school compared to my new stuff. Gesture is the new theme. The bottom figure was done at least 15 years ago. My memory is as bad as my historical recollection. I care way more about tomorrow than I do about yesterday! In the end what sings on the wall? The new work has something ...............

Jump for joy
24"x24" oil
24"x24" oil
30"x40" oil
36"x36" oil
Here are 4 new pieces that I did over old work. I continue to find satisfaction with creating abstract figures rising from the ether of old work. If you go far enough back in my blog you'll find a 36" square painting of a Texas longhorn that is now a bunch of dancers. It's nice to have options....

Something is about to happen.....
10x8
40x30
2 new pieces that I like juxtaposed. It feels like a story is playing out. I'm most interested in the play between shape and gesture.
