16"x20" oil amazing, the difference from looking toward the sun and away.

The summer show season has come and gone. The van is empty and ready for some "plein van" work. Looking forward to getting back to some plein air work and cleaning up the studio. Here are some new pieces.

cape cod boats

16"x 20" oil
I find rows of boats to be like Philip Glass' music. Orchestrations of the same things over and over and over again with very small changes. For some people it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. For me it's like getting out of school. I already want to tweak this but will leave it and do a variation from a different perspective.
Last weeks show in Westhampton was fantastic. Good sales and met great people with all kinds of future possibilities, including a cottage to stay in when I go up to Plein air paint.(I just need to give her a little painting for rent. I'm cool with that!) Also, just received the letter from Old town Chicago. I passed the show jury and will be doing that show next year! Slammin! It's one of the top shows in the country and so far was my best show this year. Here's the clincher, I may be doing a commission for the Hotel Hershey. Yep, Hershey Pa. It's a very high end establishment. They're renovating the whole place and want me to do a painting of the original hotel including some of the landscape. They buy the painting and next thing you know they have giclees in various rooms around the hotel of my piece. Pretty cool. I gave 'em a price and haven't heard back. Fingers crossed, I'd love that gig....The Alexandria show is this weekend but I plan on another post and a link to the show.

I really enjoy this area. Did this one this morning. Off to the Westhampton show. It runs Saturday and Sunday. Looks like the storm will be done there tonight.

Wellfleet Harbor Again

20"x24" oil/canvas

Here is another studio piece based on materials collected on the cape trip. These 2 boats are standard fare in Wellfleet harbor. In fact many boats resemble these all the way to Provincetown.

I'm heading to the Westport Fine Art Festival in Connecticut friday. Tomorrow I'll be packing paintings, etc...

This will be the last post for awhile.

cape cod day one

12"x12" oil/canvas

Back from 4 days of painting on Cape Cod. I arrived there Wednesday evening and did a quick painting in overcast conditions. I chose a small lake close to our cabin in Dennisport as a painting site. Used the knife for most massing and moved the paint with brushes and stand oil.

I'll post each days work in the following days. Yes, the sun came out finally! My painting comrades endured days of heavy wind and rain before I got there, so we were all excited to see the improving conditions.
